Happy Birthday, Walt!

Today is Walt Disney's birthday!  We like to do a little something to celebrate him and everything he created.  One thing we do is put up our Disney Christmas train around our tree since Walt was a huge train enthusiast.

This year I completely didn't plan ahead, but I think it would also be fun to make chili and beans, Walt's favorite food.  I first found Walt's personal recipe for chili and beans (which is in the cookbook Chef Mickey: Treasures from the Vault and Delicious New Favorites) over at Disney Food Report.   You could always take a bit of a shortcut and just use your favorite pre-made chili or go to a restaurant, too.  We will be having some leftover chili from our movie night the other day for lunch.  ;)

This is also a great opportunity to teach your kids, or yourself, about the man behind the mouse.  He was proof that you can have fun even when you work hard and, as a fellow Disney blogger we all know and love says, you can learn while you play!  So check out these two posts from Magical Mouse Schoolhouse focusing on the Walt Disney: One Man's Dream attraction in Disney's Hollywood Studios.  They are great posts and have some fun takeaways in the subjects of Art/Architecture and Creative Writing.

So, happy birthday, Mr. Disney.  You continue to be a great inspiration to us all.  Thank you!

Start Your Week Off Right

Each Monday I post a quote from Walt Disney, a Disney movie, ride, etc. to keep the Disney spirit going... even on a Monday!

In honor of the first day of Spring being tomorrow, here's a quote from Walt Disney.

"I don't like formal gardens. I like wild nature. It's just the wilderness instinct in me, I guess."

This week's quote is from Uncle Walt himself. I had never seen this quote until this weekend and I love it. It makes me smile because it's yet another reminder of the thought and love that Mr. Disney put into Disneyland and everything he created. He's a true inspiration.

"When I started on Disneyland, my wife used to say, 'But why do you want to build an amusement park? They're so dirty.' I told her that was just the point--mine wouldn't be." ~Walt Disney

Start your Week Off Right!

I'm finally doing my first Quote of the Week in about, well, a long time! So let's not delay it any further and keep the Disney spirit going... even on a Monday!

This week's quote really speaks to me. I always get these big ideas of things I want to do. Maybe not quite as big as creating Disneyland or a full-length animated feature, or even any business venture at all, but still something that I am passionate about. Then I tend to just let it get pushed into the background and eventually forgotten about. Reading this quote inspires me to just go for it and make sure to give it my all. It's how dreams, no matter how big or small, come true. Well, you know, along with pixie dust and believing in those dreams. ;) I hope it inspires you today, too.

"Get a good idea, and stay with it. Dog it, and work at it until it's done, and done right." ~Walt Disney

This week's quote always touches me and really needs no commentary. :) Enjoy and have a magical week!
