Normally I post our movie nights every other week since that's how often we have them. It happens to be that I post them the week after we have them. But since we had a movie night yesterday with Nightmare Before Christmas, I wanted to post it now in case anyone could use these ideas for Halloween or their own NBC movie night. :)
We went for a pumpkin theme with our food in honor of the Pumpkin King. For dinner we had a homemade jack-o-lantern pizza...
... fruit cocktail in an orange jack-o-lantern...
... and dessert was mini pumpkin pies!
I've made these the past couple of years and I usually pipe on jack-o-lantern faces using melted chocolate (and they turn out SO CUTE!!) but Aaron just recently got me the Williams Sonoma pie crust cutters I've been wanting so I wanted to use them. :) It was the first time I used them and I love them!
After dinner we carved our own jack-o-lantern! This isn't the best picture of it, but I had to include the one Aaron took with our cat posing with it since we call her our year-round Halloween decoration. ;) There are better pics of the cat and better pics of the pumpkin, but this was a good compromise.
I had another activity planned that we didn't get to. The pumpkin bites took longer than usual. Probably because of the older oven we have now. I haven't baked a whole lot yet since we've moved. It doesn't cook evenly or anything and I still have to get used to it. :) Anyway, I had printed out some activity cards that had things like "float like a ghost," "smile like a jack-o-lantern," and "crawl like a cat" on them. It would have been a fun thing to do with our 3-year-old and I think Aaron and I would have had fun being silly, too. :) We'll be saving it to do on Halloween, but I wanted to share it with you, too, in case you want to do it. I have had it on my computer forever so I don't remember where I got it, but I'm sure you could use google and find something similar.
After we carved our pumpkin, we watched the movie while eating our mini pumpkin pie bites and drinking some Spooky Hot Chocolate. It's just hot chocolate with a spoonful or two of frozen whipped cream (it helps bring the temp down so you can drink it right away without scalding your tongue) and a pumpkin Peep.
Our next movie night will be the new Winnie the Pooh movie! I was lucky enough to win a gift pack that includes the movie and other fun things from Babes in Disneyland recently and I am so excited to see it!
What a fun movie night!! Congrats on winning the Pooh DVD! I have entered so many giveaways for it, I hope I win, too! I almost refuse to buy it because so many blogs are giving it away that I feel like I have to win it. hahaha
